Highland Obedience Rolling Enrollment Dog Training Classes

Almost all of our dog training classes are in a rolling enrollment format. This allows greater flexibility for us and our students. You can start classes whenever you are ready, you can miss a class without losing a class, and you can stay in any given level as long as you need.

Before beginning a rolling enrollment class with Highland Obedience, we ask new students to attend a two hour orientation session where you will learn about how your dogs think and why they act the way they do. We'll share our training philosophy and techniques and prepare you for attending a class with your dog.
  • Puppy Kindergarten
Puppy Kindergarten has an 8 week curriculum. Puppies 8 to 16 weeks sign up for 4 weeks at a time ($65). Topics covered include basic obedience commands, house training, biting, jumping, chewing, handling and restraint, and, most importantly, socialization. This is primarily an off-leash class. Pups get to play together and learn that playtime and training go hand in hand.
  • Adolescent Basic Obedience
After graduating from Puppy Class, adolescent dogs may move into Adolescent Class. Adolescents sign up for 6 sessions ($110) and then may add another 4 sessions ($65). The focus of this class is to keep adolescent dogs from driving their owners mad. Adolescent dogs are like adolescent humans, almost impossible to live with. But it is more critical than ever to give them the support and structure they need to become good adult citizens. In this class, dogs get to play together with frequent intermissions for group down stays, settling exercises, off leash walking with the owner and more. In this format, discipline, training and fun go hand in hand!

  • Basic Obedience
This is the basic obedience class where dogs learn to respond to requests to sit, down, stay, leave it, stop jumping, walk on leash without wrenching out your arm or choking themselves. Sign up for 6 sessions ($110) and then may add another 4 sessions ($65).

  • Leash Walking Plus
This is the class for anyone who wants to polish leash walking skills. We do lots of group dog walking, mostly outdoors. In the summertime this includes walks in the fields and woods. For more advanced dogs, we aim to do much of the work off leash. Basic obedience exercises are also incorporated into this class. It is an excellent stepping stone for dogs not quite ready for AKC CGC or more advanced dogs who want to focus on off leash walking or just a great class for dogs who need a change of scenery from their daily city walks.
  • AKC CGC Class
This is a the class that follows Basic Obedience and prepares dogs for the AKC CGC test as well as hones their basic skills. Sign up for 6 sessions ($110) and come to the ones you want. You may add another 4 sessions ($65). Every class will include some review work and a particular topic focus for that session. For example, one session may focus on honing distance commands, another may focus on off leash walking, sometimes we'll work on honing hand signals and directions.

  • Agility, Games, and Tricks
This is a rolling enrollment class for Level 1 graduates and up. Dogs who have only completed Level 1 are eligible for this class but must have their basic commands under their belts! This class is meant to be energetic and lots of fun. We do not focus on preparing for competitive agility. In the summer, the focus is primarily on agility type fun and in the winter we incorporate tricks and obedience games.
